1. Start with the box and label
The style code (SKU) on the box's size label must match the code on the tag sewn inside the shoe, digit for digit, including the colour suffix. Cross-check that SKU against the official release. Blurry printing, a crooked label or a mismatched code is the fastest giveaway.
2. Read the tongue and size tags
Genuine Nike tags have crisp, evenly-spaced type with correct proportions on the registered-trademark symbols and the US/UK/EU/CM rows. Fakes often get the font weight or kerning slightly wrong. On the tongue, the woven Nike label should be neat, centred and tightly stitched.
3. Check the shape (the most reliable tell)
This is the check experienced buyers trust most. The Dunk has a specific silhouette — the chunky toe box, the curve of the sole, the proportion of the overlay panels. Set your pair beside official product photos of the exact same colourway and angle. If the profile looks off — toe too pointed, panels too tall — trust that instinct even when the small details seem fine.

4. Inspect the Swoosh and panels
The side Swoosh should sit at the right height and angle with clean, even stitching and a consistent taper. Look at where the coloured overlays meet — genuine pairs have sharp, deliberate panel edges and tight stitching, while fakes show wandering stitch lines, uneven density or loose threads.
5. Feel the materials
Real Dunk leather and suede have a natural grain and a bit of weight. Many fakes use thin, shiny or plasticky material that creases oddly and feels light in the hand. Suede pairs should feel soft and dense, not fuzzy or cardboard-stiff.
6. Smell it, then weigh the price and seller
