The details
A dog that finishes a bowl in under a minute isn't getting much out of the meal beyond calories. This mat turns the same kibble into a nosework task: scatter it into the layered fleece strips and folds, and a dog has to sniff, dig and root around to find each piece, which takes a lot longer and uses a different kind of tired than a walk does.
It lays flat on the floor and rolls or folds up for storage between uses. Most owners use it for a full meal a few times a week rather than every single feed — it's a slower way to eat, not a replacement for a normal bowl, and it's worth an eye on the first few sessions to see how quickly your dog works through it.
Expect a non-slip backing, a mat roughly the size of a small doormat, and layered fleece strips sewn in overlapping rows. It can be shaken out over a bin and machine washed on a gentle cycle, though the fleece will hold onto ground-in food debris more than a smooth bowl does, so regular washing matters more than with most pet gear.
It suits a fast eater, a dog left alone for stretches of the day, or one that could do with more mental tiring-out than physical exercise alone provides. It isn't a good fit for a dog that chews and pulls at fabric rather than sniffing at it — supervise the first go before leaving it unattended.
Why we stock it
Turns a normal meal into a slower nosework task
Layered fleece folds hide kibble in different spots each time it's scattered
Non-slip backing keeps it in place while a dog roots around
Rolls or folds flat for storage between uses
Machine washable on a gentle cycle
Good to know
Is it safe to leave my dog alone with it?
Supervise the first few sessions to see how your dog interacts with it. A dog that sniffs and roots is fine left to it; one that chews and pulls at the fleece strips is better supervised or given something more durable instead.
How often should I use it?
A few times a week for a full meal is typical — it's meant as a slower way to eat sometimes, not a replacement for a normal bowl every day.
Can I use wet food or treats instead of kibble?
Dry kibble or small treats work best and are easiest to wash out afterwards. Wet food tends to soak into the fleece and is harder to clean out fully.
How do I clean it?
Shake it out over a bin first to remove loose debris, then machine wash on a gentle cycle. Air dry rather than tumble drying, since the fleece takes a while to dry through.
