The Story

Part of Virgil Abloh's 'The Ten' — ten Nike icons deconstructed and reimagined — the UNC AJ1 debuted at Paris Fashion Week in June 2017 before releasing to the public in September 2018. The floating Swoosh attached only at the toe and heel, the handwritten quotation marks, the exposed foam tongue — all of these became the visual shorthand for the entire Off-White × Nike movement. University Blue was chosen as Virgil's nod to Michael Jordan's North Carolina roots. The 'Ten' collection is now studied in fashion schools worldwide.
